Object description :

"Old Merkan Rug, 105 Cm X 167 Cm, In Wool On Hand-knotted Wool In Central Asia Around 1850"
Commonly listed in the broad category of Afghan or Turkmen, this very beautiful bright carpet is a Merkan from the mid-19th century.
In used condition, this little little-known pearl from Central Asia measures 105 cm wide by 167 cm long.
A true artifact of Central Asian cultures, this carpet, despite its imperfections due to time, which spares nothing and no one, remains magnificent in its bold colors!
These carpets, always based on deep orange-red and midnight blue, feature horizontal or diagonal stripes of güls.
the güls are of various shapes and the stylized ivory flowers represent pistachio flowers.
The border has a marked Persian character, approaching the Caucasus.
The wool-on-wool texture is strong, with the knotting being very dense and fine. Note the beauty and quality of each small medallion enclosing a Medes star, the star of Solomon, surrounded by stylized rams' horns, called Kotchaks.
These rugs are always wool on wool, sometimes the decoration is very close to the Afghans using the gül pattern, but always with brighter and more radiant shades.
The elegance of the decoration is simple and its symmetrical organization made very pleasing to the eye thanks to nuances which coexist perfectly. These are comfortable rugs, the knotting is dense and tight.
This style of carpet can be implemented in any type of interior decoration even in this used state.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally friendly cleaned.
