Eugénie Despois (1795 - Paris - 1827) Miniature Portrait Of A Young Hussar Officer
A masterful miniature on ivory of a French hussar officer was executed in 1818 by the well-listed French miniature painter Eugénie Despois (1795 - Paris - 1827). She was the wife of the painter André Antoine Despois and exhibited her miniatures at the Paris Salon in 1819 and 1824. Here is a quote from Schidlof: "She was a fairly skilful artist who worked in the style of Aubry's pupils".

Inscriptions: signed and dated 1818 on the left on the edge of the miniature.
Technique: gouaches on ivory, original frame in fire-gilt bronze from the early 19th century.
Dimensions: without frame w 5.5 x h 7 cm, framed w 9.2 x h 10.7 cm.
Condition: in very good condition.
