The anxiety of choice! !
I admit that I have a weakness for drawing, but the reapers are very nice and colorful, so I chose to favor them, but the inversion is easy to achieve. Marcel BURTIN was born in 1902 in Gafsa in Tunisia of French parents.
Enlisted in the navy at 17, he sold his first painting when he was 25. In 1932, he meets Edouard PIGNON who will be the friend of a lifetime and who will introduce him to many artists, notably Matisse, Leger and Picasso who certainly influenced him, but who, through their crossed gazes, helped him to to build up his own style that will evolve throughout his career, gradually tending to decline scenes and landscapes in an increasingly abstract stylization. Exploring each theme through numerous preparatory studies and installation drawings with many variations, memory of the 1945 exhibition at Denise René's where, under the leadership of André Lhote, the young artists presented “The story of a painting With the path that had led to this one. Magician of color, in 1952 he began experimenting with ceramics, transcribing his most beautiful paintings in enamelled or painted clay. Passionate about sport, he made it one of his recurring themes, especially hockey, polo, cycling, and horse racing. When in 1956 the City of Mexico organized an exhibition of Contemporary French Art, he was part of it along with Leger and Picasso and the best contemporaries! A regular exhibitor at the Salon de Mai, he is present in the collections of the main European museums (Museum of Modern Art, Royal Museums of Belgium, Luxembourg Museum, etc.). He died in 1979, leaving an abundant and sought-after work by collectors who appreciate the resolutely modern side, in particular of his drawings.
