Born in 1919 and died in 1969, Stanislav "Stacha" Halpern (October 20, 1919 - January 28, 1969) was a Polish painter and sculptor, naturalized Australian. After the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1936, he emigrated to Australia. A decade later, he became a naturalized Australian citizen. Living in Melbourne for much of his early career, he painted bold semi-abstract works of street life. Later, he travels through Europe and experiments with pure abstraction and expressionist portraiture. Australian artist and friend Arthur Boyd described Halpern's work as "quirky, vigorous and always striking". Halpern's paintings, sculptures and pottery are held in several Australian public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victorira and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
