Late 18th century neo-classical French school: “Animated landscape”, pen and Indian ink and bistre wash on 13 cm diameter paper, mounted in a blackened wooden frame with brass marie-louise 21 X 21 cm, broken and glued. Characteristic of this neo-classical current which includes artists like Valenciennes, Bertin or Michallon, but which already heralds the Romantics, this charming very advanced drawing shows us a young mother holding her child in her arms resting on the edge of a river in front of a landscape dominated by a castle, the tondo shape accentuating the depth of the perspective.
