Box of wrought iron messengers. French, early 17th century. Box of wrought iron messengers. French, early 17th century. Measures 19 x 13 x 8.6 cm. Rectangular in shape with a slightly domed lid. The lock crest is hidden behind a latch that opens by pulling the secret button on the base. There are two loops on each side from which a leather strap would be threaded to hang the coffin when travelling. It retains its original key and is in good condition. There is an old latch repair, clearly done by someone who hadn't found the secret button under the base.
