Raymond Dierickx : "the Brocanteur / Portrait At The Bridge"

Raymond Dierickx (1904-1978): “Le brocanteur/Portrait au pont”, double-sided mixed technique 93 X 100 cm presented in a neutral pH mat. A junk dealer sitting at his stall smokes a pipe while watching a cycle race go by. Verso: a man leaning on the parapet of a bridge dominates the quays where passers-by and trailers circulate, a boat sailing on the calm waters. It was a real discovery for us that this beautiful Belgian artist! Even found in sheets and dusted with dust, these drawings, once prepared and framed, reveal all the talent of Dierickx, close to artists such as Nicolas Eeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke or other typically Flemish expressionists such as Anto Carte, representing Fêtes , processions, fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17th century with the Brughels, but treated in a very modern way. Other facets of his work show us his projects for frescoes or large decorations, often exotic, while in the old watercolors, we find a Symbolist vein with an elongated barrel. We devoted an exhibition to him (catalogue in pdf available by email) with the first ones found, but we have bought many since!
