Probably dating like the two other Italian drawings of his trip to the peninsula in 1844, he gives us here a perspective on the Basilica standing out against the background of aqueducts.
Tireless traveler Achille Fouquier brought back from his many travels sketches, anecdotes, observations collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions.
