A prodigious painter, Alexandre Guillemin was a pupil of Antoine-Jean Gros, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1840. Noted for his genre scenes full of sensitivity, he won medals in 1841 and 1845. Works by the artist are kept in the museums of Le Havre, Toulon and Montreal.
