"Lesage & Thuret Paris Grand Cartel Napoleon III"
Imposing 19th century clock forming a free-standing cartel from the Napoleon III period stamped twice LESAGE (famous Parisian cabinetmaker active at 70 rue Amelot and 91 rue Truffaut, in 1850 he became a supplier to the Emperor Napoleon III), the watchmaking is signed Thuret in Paris (great watchmaking dynasty since the 17th century). Beautiful composition in the Louis XIV style in an architectural form with a rich decoration in Boulle marquetry composed of red tortoiseshell and gilded brass punctuated with Berain motifs enriched with ornamentation of finely chiseled gilded bronzes depicting four console uprights with the figure of Atlanteans, the upper part is decorated with fire pots, the whole resting on leafy feet joined by a lambrequin apron animated by a fauna mask. The bronze dial is richly decorated with arabesques animated by cherubs. Good general and working condition, note the missing bell hammer. Dimensions: 63 cm high X 36 cm wide X 16 cm deep.
