The sculpture depicts Guanyin (Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva) with his dog Fo (also known as the Buddhist lion). Guanyin is a bodhisattva embodying compassion, his name means "observing sounds", that is, listening to requests. In her left hand, she holds an overturned vase from which holy water pours out forming foam, it is one of the symbols of good fortune and can tame suffering. The goddess is accompanied by the dog Foo, a Buddhist temple guardian and the companion of the historical Buddha Sakyamuni. The wooden sculpture is covered with a thick polychromy composed of red lacquer, silver sequins and relief decorations. At the back of the sculpture there is a hiding place - a reliquary, by the preserved polychromy it can be seen that it has never been opened. China, Qing dynasty, 18th century.
