Achille Fouquier (1817-1895?) I “The meeting” drawing in pen and bistre wash on light pencil line 13.5 X 20.7 cm. At the foot of ruins with large arcades overlooking a river descending the distant mountain, camel riders and riders begin a discussion. A tireless traveller, Achille Fouquier brought back from his many travels sketches, anecdotes, observations collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life bear witness to the history of these regions.
