Representation of a Gallic horseman, or Gallic chief (model known under both names). Bronze edited by the founder Barbedienne at the beginning of the 20th century, from a sculpture created in 1864 by Emmanuel Frémiet for the Archaeological Museum of Saint-Germain-en-Laye at the request of Napoleon III. Complete copy (no gaps) in very good condition, in its original patina, possessing character and realism thanks to its very detailed carving. The total height with the lance is 43 cm Emmanuel Frémiet 1824/1910), studies sculpture with François Rude, it is from 1843 that he exhibits at the Salon, and will receive numerous medals for his subjects. Considered as a master sculptor, he will answer to the orders of the State and his monumental sculptures: Joan of Arc, the Duke of Orleans, Saint-Michel, the sculptures of the Alexandre III bridge… earned him the highest rewards.
