Portrait of a young girl with her head slightly inclined, her hands crossed, dressed in a drape leaving one shoulder bare... Painting (oil on canvas) signed Jean Benner, dated 1899. Very good condition, gilt frame with its original gilding, some slight chips in the corners. Frame size: 70 cm x 89 cm. Jean Benner (1836 /1906) was born in Mulhouse in an artistic environment, like his twin brother he studied drawing, at the beginning he created models for the textile industry while continuing his training in Paris with Léon Bonnat and Georges Hébert. Spending long periods in the main Italian cities, it was in Capri that he married the daughter of his landlord. A close friend of Jean-Jacques Henner, Jean Benner was a painter of flowers, landscapes and portraits. His works were presented at the Salon des Artistes Français during the second half of the 19th century.
