"“the Duke Of Orléans” Emmanuel Frémiet"
Bronze group representing the Duke of Orléans on his horse, in combat gear, after the work of Emmanuel Frémiet created in 1869 installed in the main courtyard of the Château de Pierrefonds. It was the founder and publisher Barbedienne who proposed this subject in 1910, the patina is a nuanced green/brown with a beautiful appearance, the base is in cherry red marble, on the bronze base appear the signatures Frémiet and Barbedienne. Restorations on the marble and light patina retouches. The total height including the marble base (to the top of the lance) is 79.5 cm, the thickness of the base 4 cm is included in the height indicated. Emmanuel Frémiet was born in 1824 in Montrouge, studying drawing, in particular human and animal anatomy, his interest in sculpture confirmed, the animal subjects that he exhibited at the Salon in 1843 revealed an artist of great talent. Chosen for important official state commissions, he became one of the major sculptors of this second half of the 19th century, his monumental works are part of the national heritage such as Joan of Arc on horseback at the Place des Pyramides in Paris or the Archangel Saint Michel at the top of the no less famous abbey.
