"White Marble, "children Musicians And Their Dog", Attrib To Hip. Moreau, France Late 19th Century"
Lovely marble sculpture depicting of a couple of children, maybe siblings, with one of them playing the cross flute while the other child looks up amazed. The dog, symbol of fidelity, is sitting in the middle with the hand of the sitting child on his back. The children are naked with small drapery to express the timeless allegorical sense of the scene. Attributed toHippolyte Moreau(1832-1927).

French school of the late 19th century.

Liter: The second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, Hippolyte Moreau went to work in Paris under the direction of Jouffroy and exhibited his first work at the Salon in 1859. The best of his work includes charming full figures of children and young women, mostly allegorical, often with the same subjects as used by Hippolyte’s brother Auguste.
