"Jean-baptiste Van Moer, Ostende, 1841 (# Oostende Flandre Vlanderen Boat Sea Romantism)"
Jean-Baptiste Van Moer (Brussels, 1819 - 1884), Belgian romantic painter of views of cities, pupil of François Bossuet at the Academy of Brussels. Author of views from Belgium but also from Italy, Spain and the Middle East. Appreciated for the precision of his views and their atmospheric rendering. Among other things, he received commissions for the Royal Palace of Brussels (views of Venice) and for the Town Hall of Brussels. Our drawing was made by Van Moer in Ostend in 1841. It probably represents a shelter for a boat. We will notice in the background a sailboat. Its enigmatic subject as well as the variety of lines and density are the strengths of this drawing.
Pencil drawing, 16.5 x 27.1 cm. The drawing is pasted (at the four corners) on a thicker paper measuring 17 x 28 cm (this corresponds to the practice of Van Moer who kept in his studio large sheets on which he had pasted his studies by subject).
Located and dated on the right in the middle (Ostend 1841), stamp of the sale of the workshop at the bottom right (Sale JB Van Moer 1885).
Possibility of free pick-up in Antwerp and Brussels. Reduced fees for Belgium. For Europe, according to the prices of the Belgian post office.
