Large Norwegian Tankard, 18th Century, Lions Carved, Turned Birch
Large festive mug of turned birch wood, late 18th century; thick carved cover, engraved border and center adorned with a heraldic lion, emblem of the Kingdom of Norway. The thumb piece is a lion carved in high relief, a wooden handle with its leaf-shaped foot pegged to the body, skid feet in the shape of recumbent lions.
It is a mug for ceremonies, weddings or family celebrations, it passed from hand to hand to drink to health, and these objects were passed faithfully from generation to generation.
Dimensions: 26cm x 26cm x 17cm.
Condition: The mug has undergone restorations at certain times, a large crack on lid has been plugged, another on the edge of the lid deserves to be, otherwise body, handle and thumb rest are in good condition.. A few wormholes, few in number. See our sincere photos,
