Pair of large armchairs by Comtat Venaissin in molded, carved and ivory lacquered wood enhanced with yellow ocher; high and wide straight violin backrest slightly inclined and curved in the upper part. The armrests are straight with padded cuffs. The hands of the armrests are flared with windings up foliage where shells emerge. The whole is wrapped in the lower part of the backrest and rest on a so-called “gallant retraction” console support adorned with twining foliage inserted into the lateral cross member set back from the front base. Wide belt scalloped on all sides, strongly curved on the front and all in curves and against curves for its sides. The whole is embellished with fine sculptures of foliated shells and volute valances enriched with gadrooned foliage and entangled foliage. The whole resting on a base which frees itself from a spacer while being lightened by a strong arch, punctuated by winding up of acanthus leaves. This model of armchair testifies to the evolution of the seat in Comtat Venaissin under the Regency period. From the great century, the tall, wide, sloping backrests, entirely covered with fabric, as well as the ample seats are preserved, but these elements are combined with new features due to the trends that began at the twilight of the reign of the Sun King. Less solemnity and rigor in favor of more comfort more softness; philosophy dear to the beginning of the century. It should be noted the great care taken to the connecting elements of an irreproachable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this very beautiful pair of seats. The very specific work of the Venaissins master fustiers gives this atypical pair of chairs all its letters of nobility; one finds there the exuberance of the midday combined with the theatrical taste of a very Italian magnificence. Observations: Excellent condition, use and maintenance restorations such as; Complete repair of the trimmings covered with damask silk made according to the rules of the decorative arts of the 18th century as well as treatment.
