Early 19th century French school, oil on canvas showing a young lady in her Empire appartment at chocolate time. Set into its original gold leaf gilt wood frame.
Attributed to Henri Nicolas Van Gorp (Paris 1756 – 1819).
Van Gorp, 18th century / early 19th century French painter and watercolourist, is known and much appreciated for his many elegant portraits and everyday scenes.
This much refined painting depicts the lady wearing the latest fashion clothes and jewelery ; she is about to drink a chocolate cup, sitting in her dernier cri appartement furnished with Directoire, Consulate and Empire pieces.
Beautiful collector piece in excellent condition. The canvas has been cleaned.
