On December 2, 1806 from Posen, Napoleon signed the decree which ordered the construction of a temple of Glory, in honor of the soldiers of the Grande Armée, on the site of the Madeleine.
This project was ultimately to be abandoned in favor of the construction of the current Church of the Madeleine.
