Ernest FILLIARD (1868-1933): "Flower vase" Watercolor on paper, signed lower right, 46 x 38 cm Biography Born December 15, 1868 in Chambéry, Ernest Filliard trained from his youth with the Chambéry painter Benoît Molin. At the same time, he began a career at Ponts et Chaussées where he befriended François Cachoud, who would later also become an appreciated painter in Savoy. Very quickly Ernest Filliard (photo. Top right) showed great talent in watercolor. Art lovers will first discover it in Chambéry rue de Boigne in the windows of the Janin gallery. The watercolourist likes to paint landscapes of Savoy but especially still lifes, floral arrangements which will make his fame. In 1893, he was awarded the Guy Prize by the Académie de Savoie, which he shared with another artist from Chambéry. During the year 1895, he obtained the Pillet-Will prize which he once again shared with another artist from Chambéry. He exhibited in Savoy but also in the Lyon region before moving to Paris to pursue his career as an artist. From 1901, he lived in Montparnasse (photo. Bottom left) like many other artists of his time. He marries Rose, professor of letters. From 1892, he exhibited in Parisian salons as at the Champ-de-Mars salon or at the Champs-Elysées salon. In 1906, he was elected member of the Society of French Watercolors. Two years later, he was awarded an honorable mention, then in 1911 a third class medal at the Salon des Artistes Français… The State granted him in 1914, the Legion of Honor. The First World War turned the artist's life upside down. He will devote his time to the wounded at Cabourg hospital. He died on February 1, 1933 in Paris. (Antiquity Gallery of Bourget-du-lac)
