Jean Cassarini (1910-2005) Nice "les 2 Amies" Charcoal signed dated 1959 lower left; Dim: 47 x 30 cm Jean Cassarini is an artist whose work goes beyond painting. Born in 1910 in Nice, he took decorative arts classes there. He began his career as a draftsman and then a theater set designer. This led him to decorate the premises of Jean Moulin's gallery in Nice, when the latter covered his resistance activities there. He was also close to Aimé Maeght, who introduced him to Matisse and then formed a great friendship and artistic ties. Together, accompanied by Bonnard, they founded the Mediterranean Union for Modern Art. Later, he wrote a catalog on Matisse's itinerary in Nice, on the occasion of an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. His works are now exhibited at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice. (Ondrej Gallery)
