Jewish girl, oil on canvas mounted in gilt wood frame, Victor Charles Hageman, signed in the lower left corner. Frame dimensions: H. 119 x L. 59 x D. 3.5 cm; subject: H. 110 x L. 50 cm. The frame requires restoration. Victor Charles Hageman (Antwerp 1868 - Uccle 1940). Painter, auqarellist and partellist of characters and genre scenes. Also etcher. Born of a Dutch father and an Alsatian mother. Artistic training at the Academy of Antwerp where he is a fellow student of Victor Van Gogh. Find inspiration among the poor and marginalized, peasants and workers, in Jewish circles and in the port where he observes the departure of emigrants. Often works in brickyards in the Rupel region. Goes beyond the anecdotal because it exposes the miserable life led by the poor. Settles in Uccle in 1913. Begins with the Als Ik Kan circle in 1891. Member of the Eenigen circle, with ao G. Morren. Founding member of the Kunst van Heden circle (Contemporary Art, 1905). Works at the Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Namur.
