Artist: Jean-baptiste-jacques Augustin, Dit Augustin (1759-1832)
Jean-Baptiste-Jacques AUGUSTIN, known as AUGUSTIN (1759-1832), born in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, died in Paris.
Painter and miniaturist, began at the Salon of 1791, painted the nobles, the bourgeois as well as the revolutionaries. Made fortune and his recognition was not affected by the changes of regime, in 1814 is ordinary painter of the Cabinet of the King. Made the miniature portraits of Napoleon 1st, Madame Récamier, Louis XVIII, Vivant-Denon, the Duke of Orleans, the sculptor Antoine-Denis Chaudet, etc.
A retrospective exhibition of the work of this miniaturist portrait painter was dedicated to him at the Pierre-Noël Museum in his native town, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, in April-June 2010.
At the Louvre Museum are kept of this artist, a Portrait of Juliette Récamier, miniature on ivory (Dpt des Objets d'Art) as well as his Self-portrait (dpt des Arts Graphiques), other miniatures of the artist are kept at the Museum Cognacq-Jay, in Paris.

Titled and dated in pencil "Melle le Sage th fedeau 1793" "Melle Sliv th fedeau 1793" signed on the back.
Small portraits quickly brushed, no doubt on the spot. Perhaps the first sketches for the execution of much more extensive miniatures.
The Feydeau theater located on part of the current rue de la Bourse was inaugurated in January 1791 for a troupe of Italian singers who came to Paris under the auspices of the Count of Provence. It was the “Monsieur's theater” which was called shortly afterwards, on June 24, 1791, “French and Italian theater of the rue Feydeau” then “French theater and Opera-buffa” on June 29 of the same year. In 1801, the troupe merged with that of the Opéra Comique which had to abandon the dilapidated Favart room, it took the name of the National Theater of the Opéra Comique. In 1829, the Feydeau theater, which in turn threatened to collapse, was closed and then demolished. In 1840, the troupe returned to the renovated Salle Favart.
