Oil painting on canvas, laminated on panel. Three riders of an Austrian dragon regiment, saber clear, charge on horseback, against a background of sunrise. The painting is signed lower right "Vernet". We can clearly see an initial before the name, probably a stylized “H”. Some wear. Gilded wood frame. This work was most likely produced by Horace Vernet (1789-1863), son of Carle and grandson of Joseph. He is particularly known and renowned for his compositions featuring soldiers and battles from the 1st Empire.
