The Siebe, Gorman & Co house in London is known for its diving suits. It was also a pioneer in the field of sophisticated firefighter equipment to breathe in smoke. This helmet, named Spirelmo, was launched in 1878. It is made of lacquered leather. The windows are in riveted aluminum (one of the first examples of the use of this metal) and the panes of mica. The chimney located at the top of the helmet is an adjustable valve allowing the evacuation of used air. The fresh air was brought by a bellows actuated far from the fire, via a rubber hose connected to the back of the helmet. The rescuer communicated with his assistant by pulling on a cord. 1 tug: more air, 2 tugs: less air, 3 tugs: Help! .

Steampunk is a post-apocalyptic stylistic movement not devoid of derision. He maintains an aesthetic full of rivets, pipes and gears, based on 19th century machinery, which would represent the apogee of technical genius, before the arrival of plastics and electronics. It's a mixture of decadent dandyism and a pessimistic view of the future, invented by the comix artist Tardi, in the seventies. We also talk about retro-future style. This firefighter's helmet was chosen for its brutal expressionism as an accessory in Mad Max 2. It is worn by one of the killers driving the Ford Landau. You don't need to use it this way.
