Empire Period Frame In Wood And Golden Stucco
The Empire frames, sometimes solid and robust, when they are intended for oils on canvas, resemble the heroes of the Napoleonic era: sober with poise. Frieze of palmettes alternating with hememions on the doucine, row of pearls followed by a throat, a listel and the inevitable frieze of rais de coeur complete its description. We find them at the Louvre Museum (renamed at the time: Museum Napoleon) around the paintings of the Flemish Masters, framed with the borders of time. Offset for a 17th century painting, they are however inseparable from the artists of the Imperial court. To showcase a portrait of Baron Gérard, a work by Robert Lefèvre, Prud'hon or Girodet, they have no equal. With them, a small portrait of an officer will immediately rise in rank ..!
