Museum: Ca. 1820, Napoleon On Exile, Monoxyl Cane
Artist: Art Populaire
Strong gnarled wooden cane, all in one piece, 92cm and 500g, beautiful oval ferrule brass. It is carved, deeply, (about 28 cm), of a sitting Napoleon, bicorne hat and rider boots, he looks away, backed by a house defended by the Imperial eagle, another house, shaped like an altar, presents the famous hat of the Emperor. At his feet, the great cross of the Legion of Honor, guarded by a snake whose body wraps itself down around acanthus leaves.
The melancholy of the character is well featured by this somewhat languid position. 92Cm,
an object of great collection.
1st half of the 19th century.
Beautiful general condition, patina unaffected, deserves a fine brush cleaning.
