"The Gypsy Signed Raymond Allègre"
Painting representing a gypsy with its original setting, Raymond Allègre, born August 27, 1857 in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone) and died in the same city in 1933, is a French painter. Biography Painter of the landscapes of Provence, Raymond Allègre is also an orientalist painter. He is a student at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille. He is the friend of Jean-Baptiste Olive. He continues his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Paris in the workshops of Jean-Paul Laurens, Antoine Vollon and Leon Bonnat. He paints landscapes of the Paris region and Normandy since 1875. Raymond Allègre returns to Provence where he paints Martigues, Monaco and its surroundings. He exhibited at the Salon in Paris from 1880 to 1932. He won many prizes and the State bought him paintings. He discovered Venice during a trip he made in 1900 and became in love with this city that inspired him a large number of paintings. In 1900, he participated, with his panels Algiers and Cassis, in the decoration of the restaurant Le Train bleu of the Gare de Lyon in Paris. He was appointed knight of the Legion of Honor in 1903.
