Vicente Santaolaria : Departure For The Festival
Since the famous workshop sale at the Hôtel Drouot in May 1987, there are few works by Vicente Santaolaria (1886-1967) on the market. This mixed technique, gouache and watercolor on gray paper shows us three couples of Spaniards, probably Valencians, in traditional costumes going to a party, the gap in the landscape of the background letting us glimpse the sea. Studied in Barcelona, he traveled a great deal, but kept Paris as his home port. A protean artist, he practiced sculpture as well as painting or drawing. Exhibitor of the Salons, his works can be found in many museums. Leaf 16 X 32.5 cm, frame 34 X 53 cm.
