19th-century Wood Marquetry Display Box
This charming little box is undoubtedly a one-of-a-kind piece, likely a cabinetmaker’s exam project. The marquetry is so original—not to say “unprecedented,” as antique dealers used to say. Crafted from two distinct, contrasting woods—walnut and maple—it features geometric patterns. As for the passage of time, it has certainly left its mark, giving the piece a superb patina. It still has its key.
