Lekané, Magna Graecia.
Lekané, 4th century BCE. Magna Graecia, southern Italy. The black-glazed, bowl-shaped body is mounted on a pedestal and features two horizontal ribbon-shaped handles. The lid is topped by a central knob for handling, decorated with a red and black star motif. The lid’s decoration consists of two female faces in left-side profile; the portraits are separated by a palmette motif enclosed within a triangle. When turned upside down, the lid can be used as a small bowl. There are traces of restoration on the bowl. It is 10 cm high and 9 cm in diameter.
