H. Dumaige, Return From The Fields, H 56 Cm, Signed Bronze, 19th Century

A significant bronze sculpture with a nuanced brown patina, titled “Le Retour des Champs” (Return from the Fields), depicting a man wearing a hat and carrying his tools over his shoulder, most likely returning from a day’s work in the fields, gazing tenderly at his young wife, who holds their infant in her arms.

This bronze is signed by H. Dumaige (1830–1888), a French sculptor and student of J.J. Feuchère and C. Fratin, who enjoyed success during the reign of Napoleon III. 
He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1863 to 1886. His work, acclaimed for its great technical skill, is distinguished by the diversity of its subjects: pastoral-inspired genre scenes, historical figures, dancers, and mythological groups. Several of his works and public commissions are now housed in national museums.

It also bears the monogram G&S for the castor Georges Servant, as well as the inscription “Gold Medal 1867”

Good overall condition; some wear on the patina and tool marks that need to be reattached
