Dutch Brass Snuffbox, 18th Century
Engraved Dutch brass snuffbox. It is decorated with a tavern scene depicting two women and a man seated at a table, featuring two cartouches inscribed in Old Dutch. The one on the left could be translated as “this isn’t ugly: let it be,” and the second one on the right as “like corn lost in the vineyard.” The front is decorated with a bouquet of flowers and two names. The sides of the box are also engraved with leaves and flowers.
