Second Half Of The 17th Century Walnut And Gilt-bronze Clock
Refined clock featuring a case veneered in walnut,
accented with lost-wax cast, gilt-bronze mounts. These bronze elements—most
notably the floral garlands adorning the front and sides—impart a sense of
great opulence. The feet, also crafted from gilt bronze, are modeled in the
shape of small leaves. The dial, framed by a series of small cherubs, displays
both arabic and roman numerals. The movement features a weekly winding
mechanism and a small internal pendulum. Originally designed as a portable
bedroom alarm clock, complete with a handle for transport, this piece is an
object of exquisite taste and sophistication, capable of adding a touch of
classic elegance and antiquity to any setting. Characteristic example of Roman
craftsmanship from the second half of the 17th century.
