Maria Lambiotte Salkin, 1872–1943, a Belgian painter, draftswoman, and poet born in Brussels. She was a student of Frans Verhas, whose style bears striking similarities to her own painting. She primarily painted portraits, nudes, and dancers. She exhibited her works at the Universal and International Exposition in Brussels in 1910 and also at the Fine Arts Exhibition in Spa in 1914. She was the mother of the painter Émile Salkin (1900–1977), who would become Paul Delvaux’s best friend; together with Delvaux, she exhibited at the Galerie Isy Brachot in Brussels. From 1939 until the end of her life, she traded her paintbrushes for a pen. Her poems speak of her memories of the Ardennes during her youth, the tragic death of her grandson Paul in 1942, her loneliness, and her search for love and tenderness. The artist is listed in *Arto* and *Piron* (Dictionaries of Belgian Painters). Listed on Artprice, Artnet, etc...
