Beautiful oil on canvas depicting spring, two young women ambling in the grass surrounded by cherry trees watching a child playing with a goat; under the discreet and mischievous eye of a faun.
Julien Louis Tavernier was born on August 22, 1879 in Paris and is the son of Alexandre Marie Tavernier, a fabric manufacturer, and Blanche Hornorine Hutinet.
He was a student of Léon Bonnat, and exhibited at the Salon from 1908, then became a member of the Society of French Artists.
In 1909, he received a medal of honor, a silver medal in 1925 accompanied by the Marie-Bashkirtseff prize. He passed out of competition in 1928 and was awarded the prize of the Bonnat students' association in 1931.
He died unmarried at the age of 59 at his home on rue Jouvenet in Paris and is buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery.
