Beautiful Copper And Brass Teapot, Tetsubin??, Dragon & Phoenix, Japan, Meiji Period, 19th C
A very pretty teapot with interesting contrasts and symbolism. The brass body is engraved with three stylized medallions. One depicts Buddhist antiquities and symbols in a garden with cherry blossoms. Another features a bouquet of flowers and leaves. As for the third, on the back, it depicts a wooden dragon in the clouds. On the front is another medallion, made of red copper and adorned with a floral design. The top of the teapot features a swirling design depicting the famous duality of the Dragon and the Phoenix. It has a removable double handle and an elegantly shaped spout, edged with a copper band and featuring a partially openwork design with a red copper symbol. The brass lid is adorned with copper “peaches of longevity,” whose twisted stems provide a comfortable grip.
In very good overall condition, with several small traces of surface oxidation and dirt, which I didn’t dare to clean. If you dare to clean it, I’m certain it will regain its former luster! Please take a close look at my detailed photos—I’m not hiding anything!
