Oil on wood panel depicting the Education of the Virgin by Saint Anne, 18th century.
Saint Anne, seated in a red high-backed armchair, teaches the young Virgin Mary, who is kneeling beside her, to read. The two figures are gathered around an open book.
The composition is distinguished by its warm tones, deep reds, ochre and orange drapery, and a dark background that highlights the figures.
On the reverse side of the panel are several old inscriptions in black ink, including “St. Anne” and a date that appears to read “1780,” as well as other partially erased annotations.
