Miniature Portrait Of A Young Man – First Empire Period, Circa 1800-1815
Charming miniature portrait of a young man, painted on paper and depicted in bust-length, wearing a green high-collared coat and a high white cravat.
His short hair brushed forward over the forehead, sideburns, and the cut of his clothing are characteristic of early 19th-century men’s fashion, allowing this portrait to be dated to the Consulate or First Empire period, circa 1800–1815.
The portrait, approximately 7 cm in diameter, is presented under glass within a finely stamped gilt-metal surround, itself set into a square ebonized wood frame with a circular recessed opening.
The reverse retains its original mounting, with a protective cardboard backing secured by numerous small metal tabs and a suspension ring.
A charming antique ensemble retaining a presentation particularly evocative of early 19th-century miniature portraiture.
Some wear, spotting and minor alterations to the paper are visible, together with signs of age and use to the frame and gilding, all consistent with the age of the piece.
