Italian Renaissance Chair With A High, Carved Backrest And Light-wood Inlays – 16th Century

Italian Renaissance-style chair with a high, openwork backrest, richly carved and adorned with light-wood inlays that contrast with the dark hue of the frame.

The backrest features a rich decoration of volutes, foliage scrolls, and leaf tendrils, framing rectangular panels inlaid with light wood. The side posts are topped with carved capitals.

The solid-wood seat, edged with engraved geometric motifs, rests on four straight legs, connected at the front by an openwork crossbar that echoes the ornamental motifs of the backrest.
