Renaissance-style Chair - Louis XIII With A Short, Wide Backrest

A charming chair known as a “back chair” or “vertugadin chair” in the Renaissance–Louis XIII style, made of natural waxed wood.
Our chair is a replica of a model that first appeared in the late 16th century–early 17th century.
Known as a "back chair" or "vertugadin chair," it has no armrests so that ladies could sit despite their voluminous and stiff vertugadin skirts.
It rests on a base consisting of four legs connected by an H-shaped crossbar, accompanied by a front crossbar beneath the seat.
The two rear legs, the front crossbar, and the H-shaped brace have smooth shafts, while the two front legs are turned into balusters.
The backrest is low, wide, and slightly angled outward.
The backrest and seat are upholstered in burgundy fabric. The chair is in very good condition.
A beautifully crafted piece from the early 20th century.
