Robert Martin (1918–1998) - Spring Fever

- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Signed.

- This 1954 work, executed by the skilled and feverish hand of Robert Martin, is not a garden contemplated, but a garden filled with the joy of light. On this canvas, figuration gives way to the onslaught of a spring that has ceased to be a mere season and has become a state of grace captured by the brush.

Martin abandons rigidly academic line to embrace a lyrical abstraction, where the palette explodes into a choreography of free, almost electric splashes of color. The artist seems to have succumbed to the transformative effect of new sap; his brush does not draw the flower, but captures the chromatic pulse of the air. Chlorophyll greens intermingle with solar yellows and deep purples that seem to float on the canvas’s weave, creating an atmosphere where the paint becomes light, almost gaseous.

- Dimensions of the artwork without frame: 64 x 80 cm / 81 x 95.5 cm with an exclusive, custom-made frame.
