Michael Baxte (1890-1972) was an American artist of Russian origin who settled in France (an active member of the School of Paris, sponsored by the government for the exhibition of his works, he exhibited at the 1936 Olympic Games). He fled France during the war to settle in the United States and then Mexico, where he died in 1972. Influenced by Expressionism, he left his mark on Modernism with his works. This bouquet of irises and roses is dated 1947.
