Walking Stick With A Coiled Snake, 19th-century Folk Art.

A carved cane with a snake coiled around the shaft. The shaft is studded with thorns; the pommel is monogrammed "F M." A central crack has been repaired.
This lovely cane is a testament to folk art from the late 19th or early 20th century; perhaps it was meant to frighten, or maybe its owner practiced magic?
