A late 18th-century French school, this portrait of a young woman, with an illegible signature, is identified as Mademoiselle JOLLY painted by David. Marie Elisabeth Jolly, a French actress born in 1761 and who died in Paris in 1798, was a member of the Comédie Française from 1791 to 1793 (when the institution was closed). She was considered "one of the public's most beloved stars". Hand-painted miniature on ivory leaf, mahogany frame (one small chip). Sight diameter 55 mm, overall height 95 mm.
