Artist: Dali
1960’s Salvador Dali Inferno Canto 7

960’s Salvador Dali Inferno Canto 7, is part of Dalí’s larger series of illustrations for Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. This series was commissioned to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante’s birth. Dalí completed 100 watercolors illustrating The Divine Comedy, which were then translated into woodblock prints by artisans under Dalí’s supervision. The series explores the realms of Hell (Inferno), Purgatory, and Paradise.

Theme: Illustrates Canto 7 of Dante’s Inferno, which focuses on the avaricious (hoarders) and the prodigal (wasters).Visuals: Shows a muscular, melting-style human figure straining under heavy, grey boulders and cloud-like masses.

The quality of craftsmanship in the print reflects Dalí’s close involvement in the process, overseeing the woodblock artisans to ensure fidelity to his watercolor originals.
