Bust Of A Prelate Wearing A Miter—15th Century
High Middle Ages. This is likely a reliquary bust; a holy relic once accompanied our holy man.
As one of the oldest pieces in the collection, we can forgive its imperfections and missing parts due toits great age. Despite its wear and tear, we can appreciate the finesse of its carving andthe benevolent demeanor of the man of the Church. Clad in the miter, which is the most solemn headdress in the Church, he embodies the splendor of holiness. This is why we refer to him here as a holy bishop.
A 15th-century work carved in the round from wood.
Scratches and old wormholes. The wood is sound.
Dimensions: 54 cm by 28 cm
