Neogothic Travel Writing Case In Embossed Leather With Heraldic Coat Of Arms And Secret Drawer, 19th Century
Antique wooden travel writing case covered in embossed leather and decorated with scrollwork and plant motifs, dating from the second half of the 19th century.
Rectangular in shape, with a sloping lid, it features rich chiseled and repoussé metal trim, adorned with red, green, and blue glass cabochons.
The borders are accented by two rows of domed-head nails, in the style of antique caskets.
The upper part is adorned with a crowned heraldic shield depicting a fess-and-bar coat of arms crossed by a diagonal band, the attribution of which remains to be determined.
The front features an ornate keyhole and a decoration of medieval-inspired geometric motifs.
The writing desk opens in two parts and reveals an interior entirely lined with decorative marbled paper in shades of beige and green.
It features several compartments and shelves for storing paper, correspondence, and writing accessories.
A unique feature: this writing desk also conceals a secret drawer, integrated into its interior design.
